Apple Plans Major iPhone Redesigns and New Staggered Launch Schedule Through 2027

Apple is preparing to significantly overhaul its iPhone lineup, including bold design changes and a revised release strategy, according to a report from The Information.

Sources familiar with Apple’s internal roadmap reveal that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, expected in 2026, will debut with under-display Face ID technology. However, the devices will retain a small circular cutout for the front-facing camera in the upper-left corner of the screen, raising questions about the future of the Dynamic Island feature.

In 2027, Apple is said to be planning a dramatic redesign to celebrate the anniversary launch of the iPhone 20. The device is expected to offer a true edge-to-edge display, with both the front camera and Face ID sensors fully hidden beneath the screen — marking one of the boldest visual shifts in iPhone history.

In a strategic change, Apple will also stagger iPhone releases across the year starting in 2026. Rather than unveiling all models in the fall, the company will launch the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone 18 Air, and its first foldable iPhone in fall 2026. The standard iPhone 18 and a refreshed iPhone 16e will follow in spring 2027.

The move to a two-phase launch strategy aims to streamline Apple’s supply chain operations, reduce seasonal labor demand, and better manage the introduction of a growing six-device iPhone portfolio.
